Recording with Ed Summerfield

There's a crisp breeze blowing the clouds in this morning and your pals on the dreamchair are sleepy indeed. We've spent the last two Saturdays recording at the home studio of our long-time buddy, Ed Summerfield. Ed is a gifted musician and has lately been trying his hand at recording some of his lucky friends in his home-made studio. Not only do we get to enjoy the hospitality (and home cooking) of Ed's amazingly kind wife, Adrienne and the company of his two gorgeous daughters (and the dogs), we've also been fortunate to be able to use Tom Rettig's fabulous microphones. Most of the basic tracks for eleven new songs are finished. Next weekend we finish off the vocals and add Lizzie's bone dancing wood percussion parts. A new Dreamchair Music cd? Give us time, it should be in the works as soon as we get the new music mixed. Maybe Jim Velier will do the art work for us again?!

Our wonderful drummer, Robert Duarte, has a sideline. He's been making short movies for some time now. Recently Robert finished two movies that are posted on YouTube. One is a video for "One Way Streets," with scenes from SF's inner Richmond District. The other is for "Strange Warm Love." It's very beautiful. Robert's done a great job with a small camera! Go to YouTube and look for movies by robertjduarte. You'll find these two, along with two Banjo Medly movies. Happy birthday, Robert!

Our 1999 release, Odalisque, is currently at the manufacturers for re-issue in early Spring. This cd was our return to recording after some years while David recovered his chops after a painful disability. The music is heavily influenced by the traditional music of Central Asia and North Africa and features mandolin, bouzouki and the flute and keyboard contributions of our late buddy Dennis Hawley. Odalisque contains the song, "Sphinxes," which you can hear here on our website.

Dreamchair Music had a great time playing at Cafe Brainwash on Sunday, Jan. 14th. It was great to see lots of old friends. Thanks for coming out. Got to see the wonderful Walkershaws (GoVanGogh) and our old pal Ed Summerfield with his daughter, Haley. (Eddie played bass for us on Rope of Feathers in 1993!) We last played Brainwash in 1991, the night Miles Davis passed away. Richard Bryan, our bass player had a spooky picture of Miles behind the screen of his bass amp. Memories!
